If your little one has a healthy obsession with dinosaurs as mine does then watch out for the next Wild about Dinosaurs event by Wild about Nature it is one not to be missed! Held in the enchanting Baldivis children's forest, this event is one worth travelling to and with spring on its way you can make a day of it!
As you had towards the meeting point you are greeted by a friendly T-Rex (luckily he is firmly behind bars!) along with some funky dinosaur themed music. Whilst waiting for everyone to arrive, there are plenty of dinosaur activities to explore. There is dinosaur sensory touch and feel table, play doh, chunky chalk to draw with, and posters of dinosaurs to find. There is so much to look at on arrival you may forget that the main event is yet to come!
After a warm welcome from Wild about Nature's Emma and Lisa, there is a run down of the mornings activities before each group headed off into the forest on a Dinasaur adventure. Armed with our scavenger bag, check list and pen we were off. On the guided walk we had to find seven different dinosaurs hidden deep in the forest. This was the cause of much excitement as each dinosaur was spotted along the walk!
We also had to collect a selection of natural materials during the walk in order to make a dinosaur mask at the end of the session. But there was much to do before we got back to the picnic area for craft and morning tea!
Once we had found all the dinosaurs, there was a trail of colourful mini dinosaurs that let us to the dinosaur pit...here the children had the opportunity to dig for real bones.
There were plenty of gloves, shovels, racks and spades to use, but most children just got in there with their hands digging up the bones! Each child also found a dinosaur shaped crayon during the dig which led on well to the next activity.
Heading back to the pic-nic area the craft tables where all set up ready for us to get creative and make our very own dinosaur masks made from the forest! All materials are provided and whilst your little one is occupied, you can help your self to a well deserved hot coffee and biscuits.
Once everyone has finished the children are then encouraged to wear the masks for the final dinosaur stomp to music, getting all the children and parents on the floor walking like a dinosaur, just brilliant!
Wild about Nature have really thought of everything a child could possible want on a dinosaur adventure and it is so well organised that the morning runs seamlessly, which is not an easy task with excited toddlers!
At $10 this is one of the best mornings we have had out. The sessions book up quickly, so I would recommend you book in advance. They also hold sessions for small groups and do children's parties. This event was for 2-4 years olds however, there are plenty of other sessions running for older children and they have a great school holiday program!
There are toilets and baby change facilities by the pic-nic area (which is covered), fresh water, bins and there are also lots of shady morning tea spots in the forest. There is plenty of parking for the event at the top of the entrance area as you drive in. Tea and coffee are provided but bring morning tea for your child and clothes that they can explore and get muddy in.
